BIOGRAPHY

Suellen Symons is a photographer from Australia.

“I’m interested in the narratives of everyday life, and historic fantasy- rememories. I like to search for meaning and create drama in my photography. I may begin with a drawing or an idea and build the story into it or I may begin with a story and illustrate it.”

From Gina Fairley’s essay about my Time & Sensibility series she notes:

Growing up in Canberra during the 1970s, that physical stretch of space, somewhat empty and bristling with resilience against the elements, acts as a kind of underbelly to her panoramas. All photographed with the clarity of crisp winter air, there is an ethereal quality to these landscapes that has simpatico with Symons’s portraits. The use of dramatic angles and naturally drawn lines become almost gestural under Symons’s lens, their undulation breaking the static silence. While these landscapes are blatantly unpopulated, there is an implied presence that is slightly haunting.
